Remove Blackheads with Chemical Peels
There are many ways to get rid of blackheads. One of the most effective blackhead treatments is through chemical peels.
The formation of acne starts with blackheads and whiteheads. To first understand why chemical peels will work to get rid of blackheads, we need to talk a bit about whiteheads and blackheads first.
The formation of blackheads and whiteheads is the first stage of acne. Acne first starts developing inside the hair follicles. Hair follicles have a sort of gland – called a sebaceous gland – that’s attached. This gland products sebum oil.
Certain factors such as excess hormones, stress, diet, and environment (and so on) all can affect sebum production. This change of sebum levels results in little scales inside the follicle. It is these scales that clog up the pores. This blockage of the pore is what causes acne.
How to Blackheads and Whiteheads Form?
Blocked pores form into blackheads and whiteheads. This is called the “first stage of acne.” Another name that refers to these blockages is comedones. A comedone is basically a hair follicle plugged up with dead skin cells, bacteria, dirt, and sebum. We call blocked comedones a whitehead. You can see whiteheads as small bumps on the skin with a white color as the head. Whiteheads differ than blackheads because they have a closed mouth while blackheads protrude from the skin with an open mouth (no seal over the top). Contrary to popular belief, the color of the blackheads is not because it’s dirty. It’s the oxidized sebum that gives blackheads that distinct dark color.

How to Treat Whiteheads and Blackheads
Removing whiteheads and blackheads can be a very big deal indeed. There are various blackhead medications that can help get rid of blackhead blemishes and there are even some topical creams that can remove whiteheads or at least reduce them.
One effective treatment that actually works is the chemical peel. Chemical peels use chemicals to remove the top layer of your skin. This is the layer that contains blemishes, dead skin cells, bacteria, etc.
There are various strengths of chemical peels. The weakest type of chemical peel is the at home chemical peel. You can purchase these from a drugstore or online (cheaper online) and apply these yourself. They are fairly effective but don’t give as deep a clean as the more serious chemicals peels.
If you want a more penetrating chemical peel to treat blackheads, you need to see a medical practitioner to get a professional chemical peel. The chemical peel procedure is such that special chemicals are applied to the skin for a certain amount of time. Chemical peels will, depending on the strength and the chemicals, the type of chemicals used, and the time duration, will peel away parts of your skin. This allows new skin to form – skin that’s free of previous blemishes.
You can use deep chemical peels to really help remove blemishes on your face – but for most blackheads and whiteheads, there may be no need for this level of chemical peel. You can remove blackheads and whiteheads with a mild to superficial chemical peel. Superficial chemical peels can be purchased over the internet.
The way these superficial chemical peels work to clear up blackheads is through a mild chemical cream. This cream is rubbed onto the skin for about 10 minutes, and then later washed off with water. The weak chemicals remove the top layer of skin and pull away the uppermost epidermis. This helps to remove the blackheads and whiteheads in the skin.
You can think of these chemical peels as a sort of super strong blackhead strip (pore strip). You are essentially “pulling off” the blackheads.
Now, chemical peels are not the only way to cure blackhead skin problems. For a less involved process, you can use pore strips to pull out blackheads. The effectiveness of these vary from skin type to skin type though – some may pull out lots of blackheads while others barely any. Using a few at a time should yield some visible results. You usually won’t be able to pull out all the blackheads.
Blackheads strips don’t work very well on whiteheads. Your best whitehead treatments will be whitehead treatment medication. You can also use acne creams, blackhead creams, or other blemish topical medication.
Getting rid of blackheads can be a bit of a challenge, but if you persist with your efforts, you will get rid of them, eventually. Chemical peels are very effective for removing blackheads from your face, especially around the nose and chin areas.
