But does Proactiv really work as a cure for blackheads? In short...yes it can. I've suffered from acne and excessive blackhead outbreaks since I was 16. I've had so many blackheads that they literally discolored my face. At one point, my blackhead outbreaks were so bad I could not...would not look at a mirror.

What I found very effective is to use wash my face with an exfoliant twice a week. This helps to remove all that gunk like dead skin and bacteria from my face. I've found exfoliating more than twice a week hurts my face. I apply the Proactiv Renewing Cleanser first. I then use the Proactiv Revitalizing Toner followed by the Proactive Repairing Treatment. I do this twice a day, 7 days a week.

Note: DO NOT start off applying Proactiv to your face twice a day. I started doing this initially and the Repairing treatment really irritated my skin. I guess my skin was NOT used to it and it started flaking, feeling like I had sunburn. So start off applying it once a day for a week or two, then slowly move to two times a day.

Some people opt to just ditch the Renewing Cleanser and Revitalizing Toner to save money, and I guess you can do that as these are pretty similar to other products. I've found using the Proactiv 3 step system as intended works best for me.

I can't promise you that Proactiv will get rid of blackheads for certain, but in my case, I've noticed a big difference. I've heard a lot of people talk about Proactive and acne pimples, but not blackheads. But based on my own experience, I say it's definitely worth trying Proactiv out for 2-3 months to help get rid of blackheads. It might be just what you are looking for.

If you want to simply remove blackheads on the nose, there are some useful products that will help you achieve this. One of my personal favourite solutions is the blackhead pore strip. There are several companies that produce effective blackhead strips. I personally have found the Biore Deep Cleaning Pore Strips the most effective.

The effectiveness of the strip will really depend on your skin type. Some people can remove a significant portion of nose blackheads with a couple strips; other people only find the strips remove a few blackheads. It's recommended that you at least try a few blackheads removal strips to see how effective they are. Keep in mind that these strips won't cure your blackheads problem -- they will temporarily remove (some) blackheads from your nose. If you want a more long lasting or permanent solution, you are going to need to treat the root cause your blackheads: oily skin.

Another solution is to use a blackhead comedone extractor. These blackhead removers can be quite effective. You can buy some cheapy ones on the market, but I suggest you pick up a professional kit -- there will be more "sizes" of extractors to choose from. I've found these very effective for removing stubborn blackheads. Just make sure you apply some sort of blackhead medication after to avoid an infection!

However, it can be time consuming to individually remove each blackhead. Note that if you get your blackheads removed by a dermatologist or beautician, one of these tools will likely be used.

One recommended strategy is to use a blackhead strip to remove blackheads from your nose en bulk then use a blackhead tool to pick out the remaining blackheads.

To get rid of blackheads permanently, you should look at treating your blackheads problem through a combination of healthy living (diet, exercise -- yes this matters!), facial hygiene, and acne/blackheads medications. For facial hygiene you should exfoliate your face once a week with a mild exfoliant and wash your face with a non-comedogenic cleaner twice a day. There are various acne creams, acne medications, and acne washes that can help get rid of acne and blackheads. Most of these medications contain Benzyl Peroxide or Salicylic acid. You might want to try some tea tree oil wash which has been proven as effective as 5% benzyl peroxide and less harsh on the skin.

So to get rid of blackheads on nose (and to treat other blackhead trouble spots like chin or cheeks) do the following:

1. Use some sort of blackheads strip like Biore strips to remove a large portion of your blackheads. Use 2 strips, but no more than 2 strips every week. If you use them too much, you can damage your skin.
2. Use a comedogene extractor tool to remove some of the larger, left over blackheads that the strips don’t remove.
3. Treat your blackhead problem with proper facial hygiene and a diet of healthy, natural food. Too much greasy food and lack of water can contribute to acne and blackhead problems. You may want to use some sort of blackhead or acne medication to help treat your condition too.

Now, let’s go over some of the most effective ways to get rid of blackhead blemishes.

Diet
This is a big one and a blackhead treatment that most people don’t “consider.” There is a strong correlation between acne and blackhead production and diet. Now, the old adages about chocolate and french-fries being responsible for your breakout are false, but there is a connection between diet and the number of blackheads you may end up with on your face.

Blackheads are caused by excess oil production of your sebum glands. Now the more fatty foods you have in your diet, the more fat your body will have which it can use to produce sebum. So avoid that fast food and stick to whole grains, vegetables, and lean meats! Drinking water can also help you remove blackheads to by flushing out excess oils and toxins.

Skin Car Regimen
If you have skin car problems, you will need to take an active approach to treating your blackheads. How can you do this? By getting a good skin car regiment going. A regiment should include some sort of blackhead-treating facial scrub, healing facial wash, and blackhead medication. You will also want to put on some sort of moisturizer. For best results, you perform your skin care regiment in the morning and before going to bed.

I personally use the Body Shop Tea Tree Oil skin car kit. I’ve found it does wonder getting rid of blackheads and keeping my complexion clean. Tea tree oil is amazing for getting rid of blackhead and acne blemishes.

Blackhead Medications
There are many acne and blackhead medications out there. You can use these medications during your skin car regimen (if it comes part of the set) or separately. There are pretty much 3 topical medications that will help your skin (ones that are medically proven): Benzoyl Peroxide, Salicylic acid, and Tea Tree Oil. I’ve used all of these products to treat my blackhead problems but the one that I found most effective is tea tree oil. The reason is that tea tree oil is a natural oil produced by the Tea Tree in Australia and has powerful antimicrobial properties – it’ basically kills the bacteria on your face that contribute to blackheads and acne problems, I prefer it over the other medications because it does NOT dry out your skin – a real problem you may experience with Benzoyl Peroxide or Salicylic acid. Research has shown it to be as effective or more effective than 5% Benzoyle Peroxide.

For a nice gentle blackhead treatment I suggest Jason 100% Pure Tea Tree Oil. I personally use this as a topical blackhead and acne treatment and it’s VERY effective. It’s 100% tea tree oil – much stronger than say tea tree oil offered by the Body shop (which is still good, but only 5-10% the strength).

However, if you want to use Benzoyl Peroxide as a treatment, it can still be very effective. I’ve used the Acne Org’s Benzoyle Peroxide very effectively in the past. This is the best deal I’ve found out there:
